man and woman walking on the street during daytime

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for six weeks, starting September 18.

Introducing “Walk With Ease!” This is an evidence-based program developed by the Arthritis Foundation. While walking is the central activity, Walk With Ease includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, and motivational strategies.

The program was specifically developed for adults with arthritis who want to be more physically active. The program is also appropriate for people without arthritis, particularly those with diabetes, heart disease and other chronic conditions, who want to get more active.

The only pre-requisite ability is to be on your feet for at least 10 minutes without increased pain. Participants may use mobility devices including canes, walkers, or trekking poles to complete the walking segment. In addition, all strengthening exercise may be completed in the standing or seated position.

Comprehensive studies demonstrate that Walk With Ease reduces pain, increases balance and strength, and improves your overall health. The program will help motivate you to get in great shape and allow you to walk safely and comfortably. Health outcomes include:

  • Decreased pain
  • Increased strength
  • Increased balance
  • Increased self-efficacy

This is a 6-week session with three 1-hour sessions each week. Thanks to Congressionally directed funding, Bugbee is offering this program for free! The program starts on September 18 and ends October 27. The weekly schedule is:

  • Mondays 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
  • Wednesdays 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Fridays 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

Each session is led by a trained group exercise leader, with a pre-walk discussion covering a topic related to exercise and arthritis, followed by a 10- to 40-minute walk that includes a warm-up and a cool-down.
