If you were stuck on a desert island, and had to choose between turkey or pie, what would your choice be? My choice would be not to get stuck on a desert island, so I could eat both with friends and family at Thanksgiving. We’re all wishing you warmth and coziness as the cold weather starts to settle in, the evenings get cozier, and the holidays approach. Happy Thanksgiving!
In the spirit of giving thanks, I want to express our collective gratitude to those of you who have chosen to contribute to our annual fundraising campaign. Every gift adds up to make a real difference. So much of the social connection, enrichment, and nutrition offered at the senior center comes from community support. That includes not only financial supporters, but also people who just come for activities, people who read and enjoy the Bulletin, who vote in approval of our Town appropriations, who share ideas and feedback for new and better programs, and those of you who encourage your friends to join us at the Center. There are many ways to support Bugbee’s cause.
More gratitude: Bugbee participants are the best. Whenever talking about my job with people around town I tell them that this is the best job I’ve ever had, and it’s thanks to this wonderful community of people around the lunch table, in the exercise rooms, at the Buzz Café, or my favorite spot, greeting people at the door.
Last, but not least, a HUGE thank you to staff and volunteers at Bugbee. Hardworking doesn’t describe it well enough, because Bugbee staff and volunteers help make it fun. It is hard to get stressed out when you know everyone is working as a team towards the same goal: helping seniors live independent and enriching lives full of connection.
I would love to hear about the things you are grateful for during this reflective time of the year. Please feel free to write or send me an email (mark@bugbeecenter.org), and I can post some of your expressions of gratitude on the board. It’s been a busy and especially active year at Bugbee, and I look forward to seeing many of you during holiday festivities!
