two pumpkins on brown wooden table

It’s my birthday! Well, actually, not until the 30th. But I can’t wait to hear everyone sing at this month’s birthday lunch! I won’t tell you how old I’m turning, but here’s a hint: I’m 33% older than Alec, probably the youngest Bugbee-ite, and also 140% younger than the most senior of Bugbee seniors… Come to think of it, it’s fun to think how much of history we collectively inhabit together.

October is probably my favorite time of year, and not only because it’s my birthday month. This time of year provides so much fun and many chances to get together, from pumpkin carving to Halloween spookiness. Bugbee staff has put together an awesome calendar of activities this month, including a very special Halloween menu! Costumes are not mandatory but if you’re in the mood, go for it!

October is also the “Bugbee New Year,” which is a fun way of saying it’s the start of our fiscal year. This is when we launch the annual fundraising campaign, and your support is going to be important this year—whether you’re a donor, volunteer, or just coming for events. We’ve got more folks coming to the Center than ever while our area agency, Senior Solutions, has cut the regional budget for the nutrition program. We are determined to continue serving as many people in need as possible, but we will need strong support from everybody to do so. Please consider donating this year, and if you are already a Bugbee Donor, please consider increasing your contribution if you have the means!

Last but not least, I wanted to give a special thanks to our gardeners this year, both in the backyard community garden, but also around the building. I’m sure the flowers brightened up your days as much as mine, and it’s just so nice to see people using the backyard. The gardens may be closing for the season but the action has moved inside, and I’m looking forward to all the activities and meals we’ll be able to enjoy together. Thank you for being a part of life here! Happy October folks!
