I hope all of you were able to avoid the worst impacts from July’s historic storms and flooding. We have all been heartbroken to see the catastrophic flooding in other communities. This has been a reminder for all of us to stay alert, be ready to check on our neighbors, and to be ready to help when we can. If you or anyone you know needs any assistance or information during the long road ahead, please contact us and we can help connect you to resources.

Mapping Bugbee was a lot of fun! Not surprisingly, our community is well represented throughout New England. Quite a few from Pennsylvania and the Midwest as well! And more than I expected from the Southwest. It was interesting to look at all the pins spread across on the map and think just how big our little senior center truly is. A few people left interesting stories in the Guest Book as well. We will leave the book in the library for you to enjoy.

Speaking of interesting stories, we’re diving into Bugbee’s history. I’m grateful for volunteer support sorting through old newspaper clippings, town archives, and photos documenting the story of this place and who was involved with getting it built (thank you Barbara!). We’re working on getting it organized to share how this wonderful senior center came to be, and to honor the legacy of our founders and supporters. Were you involved during that time? Or do you know anyone who was involved with the Bugbee Committee or White River Council on Aging during the 1970s and ‘80s? Have any old photographs of the early days? I’d love to talk with you and learn more!

Stay cool and safe during this hot summer. It will be one to remember – not only because of the floods and heat and persistent wildfire smoke, but also because of the strength of our community. Thank you for being here!
