Happy July! Hope you have been enjoying summertime activities, whether you’re a gardener or prefer staying in the shade (or air conditioning). If it ever gets too hot, here’s our annual reminder that Bugbee Senior Center makes a great cooling station. You are always welcome to just come and chill out, enjoy a book from the library, or watch some TV and relax.

I was away last month for a good stretch, took a vacation to see friends in Maine, and also went to the National Council on Aging conference in Arlington, Virginia. I cannot tell you how great it was to meet other senior center workers from around the country! We all traded ideas for different events and programs, discussed our challenges (funding, of course) and our successes (getting to know older people being the best). It is nice to know that we are part of a network of organizations committed to helping people age independently. It made me love this job even more, and proud of what the Bugbee community has accomplished.

In my absence, Susan helped pack the calendar full of some great stuff! I’m excited to see Cornhole return to the schedule. “Mapping Bugbee” is going to be a fun display to help us get to know how far and wide our community extends. Art and train talks, some music, and of course the summer barbecue helps round things out. Bugbee is the place to be this month.

Before I sign off and let you peruse the menu, calendar, and announcements, I wanted to thank those of you who were able to attend the kickoff for the Architectural Feasibility Study. It was really useful to hear everyone’s ideas on how we can make this facility an even better place for seniors. The Center has been here for 43 years now, and hopefully will be around another 43 years! In the meantime, thank you. Hope you enjoy July 4th festivities, the warmth, and any other chance to get together and socialize.
